A Paleo Diet is based on a period that lasted around 2.5 million years and ended only about 10,000 years ago with the emergence of agriculture and the domestication of animals. Humans’ nutritional needs are specific to foods available at that time. Some claim the nutritional needs of humans remain best suited to the diet of their Paleolithic ancestors.

Paleo Diet fans also claim that human metabolism has been unable to adapt fast enough to handle many of the foods that have become available since the advent of agriculture. Modern humans are said to be unsuited to foods such as grain and dairy, and particularly high-calorie processed foods today. Inability to properly metabolize these foods could lead to things like obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.
