Chocolate has always been my favorite dessert. There are so many ways chocolate can be prepared and enjoyed. Chocolate comes from the Cocao tree, Theobroma cacao. Theobroma is Greek for “foods of The Gods.” That is very fitting. No substance seems to compare.An article in “Mother Earth Living” stated, “Recent scientist research shows that this powerhouse nutrient increases a sense of well-being, fights oxidation in the body tissue, stimulates pleasure centers and immune system, and may even help you live longer”. Cocoa can also increase concentration. It is the phenols in chocolate that enhances immune function. Move over chicken soup! We are talking medicinal chocolate now!If you are going to eat it, why not eat the best chocolate and make it uniquely medicinal. Don’t settle for cheap candies with a long toxic ingredient list. Enjoy your chocolate with no guilt or negative health consequences. The time has come to invent your treat and rule over what you crave. Make it your own medicine creation.We have been making homemade chocolate bark and experimenting with adding turmeric. Turmeric is an amazing anti-inflammatory that the body digests better if cooked in a fat. Black pepper is added to increase absorption further. We have a chance these days to gather all the super foods of the world and swirl them into a chocolate power bar that is pleasurable and beneficial to our vitality. If turmeric doesn’t do it for you, try chia seed for omega 6 and as a digestion aid. Add freshly toasted nuts for protein. Try powdered ginseng root and bee pollen for the boost of ancient woodland delight. Use lavender for the cool and calm. Try freshly grated ginger root for a winter warm up. After the coconut oil is melted add the turmeric powder and organic cocoa powder. Allow it to simmer 10-15 minutes. Watch the two powders swirl into an herbal medley of goodness. Take off the heat and add ¼ cup honey or maple syrup for sweetener. Stir. Pour into a pan or onto parchment paper. Let sit in the freezer until hard.I may triple the recipe and add more turmeric for a medicinal quality power bar. I keep my chocolate in the fridge after hardening and break off a piece of yummy anti-inflammatory bar. Smile and enjoy. These homemade bars can travel in cold temperatures, but the coconut oil will re-liquefy if too warm. This process takes less than 20 minutes to create enough to last most of the week. After trying this quality chocolate bark, your taste buds will thank you and you will never go back to toxic treats again.
